Key Responsibilities
As the Security Operations Lead, you are a senior practitioner within the IS Security team, accountable for executing and enhancing core security operations, supporting security uplift initiatives, and providing expert guidance to technology and business stakeholders. This role requires strong technical expertise, sound judgement, and problem-solving capabilities to maintain and continuously improve the organisation’s security posture. As part of this team, the IS Security function manages security controls and delivers initiatives to reduce cyber risk across the organisation.
12 Month Fixed Term Contract
On a day-to-day basis, you will:
- Lead security monitoring activities, ensuring alerts, reports, and intelligence outputs are reviewed, triaged, and actioned with appropriate remediation or escalation; own end-to-end management of SIEM findings.
- Action security tickets in a timely and consistent manner, ensuring issues are resolved or progressed in line with operational SLAs.
- Manage the vulnerability management cycle, ensuring scheduled scanning across web, endpoint, server, and network assets is executed effectively, and partner with asset custodians to prioritise remediation and track closure.
- Conduct and document security assessments of third parties, systems, and IS solutions, and review functional and technical designs to ensure alignment with security policies and standards.
- Provide subject matter expertise to technical projects, advising on secure configuration, control implementation, and partnering with teams to plan and implement security controls.
- Manage relationships with key security service providers and identify opportunities to enhance security services, processes, and tooling, promoting adoption of security policies and practices across IS and business teams.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant technology discipline (required) and professional technical certifications in Infrastructure/Security technologies (e.g. CISSP, MCSE - Security, CompTIA Security+ or equivalent) (required)
- TOGAF/SABSA Foundation (optional) and ITIL Foundation Certificate (desirable)
- Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships at all levels internally and externally, and situational awareness with a natural ability to adapt style to the situation, with stakeholder influence, providing clear guidance to both technical and non-technical teams
- Strong understanding of technical innovations in security and solid knowledge of information security principles and practices
- Ability to build and maintain strong operational partnerships
- Experience with SIEM, SOAR, email security, endpoint protection, and web filtering platforms
- Strong capability across modern Microsoft cloud security tools, such as MS Sentinel, Defender for Endpoint and Entra ID
- Experience with Vulnerability and Threat Management tools like Qualys/Nessus and Secure Access / Cloud Security platforms like Zscaler
